The Environmental Engineering Specialist oversees the Southwest District's environmental compliance program for transportation projects, ensuring adherence to air, water, hazard waste, natural resources, and wildlife regulations. The role includes monitoring environmental reviews, managing vegetation control initiatives using GPS/GIS technology, and assisting with stormwater permit compliance. This position works under a registered professional engineer and serves as a district subject matter expert on environmental requirements for construction and maintenance projects.
- Key qualifications:
- BA or BS in science or environmental field plus 4 years relevant experience, or Master's degree plus 2 years experience, or 10 years progressive experience in scientific/engineering work
- Knowledge of federal and state environmental laws, regulations, and transportation agency compliance requirements
- Skills in analytical research, data analysis, report preparation, and public communication including testimony
- Ability to interpret and implement environmental permit regulations and conduct complex environmental site assessments
- Valid driver s license and ability to obtain certified applicator license within first year
- Proficiency with GIS/GPS technology and computer systems for database management and correspondence
