Police Crime Analyst – Yuma Police Department

Are you looking to join a team that values professionalism, accountability, integrity, and responsiveness? We are looking for someone to join Team Yuma as a Police Crime Analyst, working with the Yuma Police Department. The ideal candidate is an analytical and detail‑oriented professional who excels at transforming complex crime and public safety data into actionable insights that support investigations, strategic planning, and crime reduction efforts.

Under basic supervision, performs analytical work that supports Yuma Police Department (YPD) operations, investigations, and long‑term crime‑reduction strategies. The position collects, evaluates, and interprets crime and traffic data to identify patterns, trends, hotspots, and emerging issues. This role supports forecasting efforts, develops clear actionable visual and written intelligent products, and assists with strategic planning initiatives.

Essential Functions
  • Analyzes crime, traffic, and related public safety data to identify trends, patterns, hotspots, crime series, and emerging issues using GIS, statistical, and analytical tools.
  • Produces and disseminates analytical products, including reports, bulletins, maps, dashboards, charts, and presentations to support operational, investigative, and strategic decision‑making.
  • Conducts data queries and research to support criminal investigations, identify investigative leads, and assist with pattern and offender analysis.
  • Presents analytical findings and recommendations to department personnel and stakeholders during briefings, meetings, and operational planning sessions.
  • Supports problem‑oriented policing, crime reduction initiatives, forecasting efforts, and strategic planning through data‑driven analysis.
  • Responds to requests for crime and public safety analysis from department personnel and authorized partner agencies while ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and compliance with applicable laws, policies, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to support information sharing, regional crime analysis efforts, and public safety initiatives.
  • Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the "Yuma Way", and complies with all City policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work‑related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Criminology, Social Science, Statistics, GIS, or related field; AND two years of experience in crime, intelligence, or public safety analytics; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must pass a polygraph examination and background check. Experience in GIS platforms or analytical tools preferred.

Knowledge
  • City organization, operations, policies and procedures.
  • State and Federal criminal and civil statutes governing data confidentiality and public reporting.
  • Crime and statistical analysis techniques, practices, and principles.
  • Specialized computer software applications, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Police operations and investigative workflows.
  • Statistical methods, data visualization techniques, and automated workflow processes.
Skills
  • Data visualization and interpreting complex data in producing clear, concise, and actionable analytical products (i.e., maps, reports, etc.).
  • Maintaining confidentiality and exercising good judgment in handling sensitive information.
  • Public presentation and providing information to diverse audiences in a professional manner.
  • Managing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines, and working independently with minimal supervision.
License and Certification Requirements

A valid Arizona State Driver’s License is required.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

Work is performed in a standard office environment. May occasionally be required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects.
