Summary

The Patient Access Counselor is responsible for facilitating a positive patient experience through coordination and advocacy during receipt, pre‑registration, registration, scheduling and other interactions throughout the patient stay.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate patient registration, pre‑registration, scheduling, and other intake processes.
  • Assist with identification, demographics collection, insurance verification, eligibility, and financial counseling.
  • Coordinate with patients, families, and outside agencies for Medicaid, AHCCCS, Marketplace, and YRMC Financial Assistance.
  • Maintain patient access and revenue cycle work queues.
  • Perform financial counseling, collect payments, and process billing information.
  • Verify insurance and authorization documentation; contact third‑party payers.
  • Collect, post, and reconcile financial transactions, maintain cash drawer and deposits.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as COA, Medicare, Tricare paperwork, and required signatures.
  • Ensure electronic health record documentation is complete and up to date.
  • Complete continuous education and follow‑up activities related to financial programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2+ years related experience.
  • Essential:
    Arizona Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Knowledge of third‑party payer regulations, ICD‑10, CPT, HCPCS.
