Listed is the base hiring salary range offered for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to skills and experience. The salary range listed is just one component of the total rewards/compensation package offered to candidates.

The Surgical Technologist works under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The surgical technologist possesses knowledge in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combines the understanding of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

• Independently first scrubs in all basic surgical procedures
• All surgical specialties
• Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure; sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure
• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation, throughout, and before incision is closed
• Handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure; passes instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure; understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon
• Cleans and prepares instruments at the end of the case for terminal sterilization; assists all members of the team with terminal cleaning of room between cases; assists in prepping rooms for subsequent patients
• Demonstrates ability to problem solve in relation to the procedures in surgical specialties
• Applies base knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology for optimal surgical patient care
• Applies basic knowledge of computers, electricity (as it pertains to surgical supplies and procedures), and robotics
• Demonstrates knowledge and practice of patient care concepts; communicates effectively with those who are part of the surgical team to promote a safe atmosphere for the patient
• Applies the principles of sterile technique during surgical procedures:
  Scrubs, gowns, and gloves self, surgeon and any assistants using proper sterile technique; assists in draping the sterile field; and is constantly vigilant for maintenance of the sterile field
• Participates in orientation and training program to attain competency in complex cases
• Other duties as assigned

• BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS)

• HS DIPLOMA/GED

Required:

Graduate of CAAHEP‑accredited surgical technology program and zero years of experience or graduate of the YRMC Surgical Technologist internship program and zero years' experience. In lieu of graduation from a CAAHEP‑accredited program or the YRMC Surgical Technologist internship program, one year of on the job training is acceptable.
