Summary
The Nurse Informaticist functions as a knowledgeable practitioner, educator, and evaluator to maintain and improve system services, and to mentor clinician users to become better technology consumers. The Informaticist consistently searches for and implements systems and system improvements that enable clinicians to provide high‑quality care in the most efficient manner possible utilizing technology.
Responsibilities• Performs regular analysis of department workflow and provides recommendations for the automation of manual processes, interacting daily with department staff.
• Conducts ongoing assessments to ensure technology meets departmental needs, improving workflow rather than impeding it.
• Solicits and responds to user concerns about system functionality, working cooperatively within the Informatics and EHR Governance Structure to develop resolutions.
• Liaises with clinically focused committees to recommend and plan the development of clinical systems.
• Assists with the development and revision of department policies and procedures related to technology implementation, and develops targeted metrics to measure system benefits.
• Gathers and analyses information to determine overall system and process improvement benefits based on pre‑defined metrics.
• Facilitates change‑management mechanisms for system alterations.
• Maintains relationships with vendors, attends vendor training, user groups, and audits software upgrades with the IT System Analyst.
• Ensures adherence to National and Institutional Privacy Policies in system development.
• Identifies potential champions for clinical technology and mentors them as future technology leaders.
• Manages or participates in system implementation projects following the organization’s Project Management Methodology.
• Builds and oversees system workflow components that support integrated operations across all departments.
• Leads initiatives to secure early buy‑in from stakeholders at all levels, continuously engaging them to facilitate adoption of systems and processes.
• Participates in testing and validation of departmental systems and components, and documents user instructions.
• Reports project status and metrics scorecard data to stakeholders, developing audit tools to determine user adoption levels.
• Serves as the primary liaison between the department, core teams, and IT to resolve system/interface problems.
• Develops, trains, and oversees implementation of downtime procedures, communicates schedules to staff, and ensures availability of appropriate tools.
• Establishes a collaborative user support framework addressing hardware, software, and process issues, and provides direct support to end users.
• Develops tools and training programs to maximize user autonomy in obtaining necessary reports.
• Provides direct hands‑on training for department staff on computer hardware, software, and related processes, ensuring compliance with national data privacy laws and security policies.
Qualifications•
Minimum Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required;
Master’s Degree preferred.
• Current licensure as RN in the state of practice.
• BLS Certification.
• Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience.
• Knowledge and experience with Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) related projects.
