About the Role
This position will be part of the Lockheed Martin Sustainment Services, supporting the F‑35 Field Modification Team at various locations. The candidate will be assigned to MCAS Yuma, AZ to support F‑35 modification efforts. Travel may be required ~30‑50% depending on business and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Heavy depot level maintenance, repair and modification of aircraft structure and major subassemblies. Plan, lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal and structural assemblies and sub‑assemblies using precision measuring equipment.
- Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, tape measures) and various tools such as drills, angle motors, shears, drill press, and pneumatic riveter.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and structure repair manuals. Identify aircraft locations by station, butt‑line, and waterline as shown on engineering documentation and technical orders.
- Apply bonding practices and procedures, lay out parts, and ensure exact fit where critical surface contours or edge distances are required.
- Verify installation of LO materials for conformity to specifications and determine material and time required for repairs. Perform corrective action and reinstallations where design or modification changes are needed.
- Perform repetitive movements, work overhead, and use hands to grasp, handle, and/or feel, reach. Frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, squat, crawl, and twist.
- Set up and operate material testers and mixers. Record data and procedural information for future use. Improvises shop aids to facilitate fabrication, application, or assembly operations. Work in a safe, efficient manner while maintaining a clean, FOD‑free work area.
Regularly lift up to 50 pounds. Perform repetitive movements and work overhead. Use hands to grasp, handle, and/or feel. Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, squatting, crawling, and twisting. May require confined space entry and extended work hours.
Basic Qualifications- Structural repair experience on fighter‑type aircraft.
- Experience fabricating shims, brackets, and plates; trimming, filing, drilling, riveting, reforming, and fitting parts; removing burrs or other surface imperfections.
- Experience with bonding aircraft parts, assemblies, and materials where methods and sequences are not established.
- Ability to wear and perform modifications while wearing a respirator.
- 4 years of structural repair experience on fighter‑type aircraft, specifically F‑35 or F‑22 platforms.
- Low Observable (LO) coatings application experience on F‑35 or F‑22 platforms.
- Experience with Industry Standard Tool Control programs and Haz Mat handling procedures.
- Experience with ALIS.
Requires a U.S. citizenship and a Secret clearance. The candidate must possess a Secret clearance to start. The position is located at a facility that requires special access.
