SummaryThe Pre-Operative Nurse is a key member of the healthcare team, responsible for preparing patients for surgery. This role involves a thorough approach to patient care, including conducting preoperative assessments, educating patients about the surgical process, and addressing any concerns to ensure a seamless transition into surgery. The Pre-Operative Nurse collaborates with surgeons and anesthesiologists to ensure patients are fully optimized prior to their procedures.
By providing meticulous attention to detail and compassionate patient interactions, the Pre-Operative Nurse enhances the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the surgical process, contributing to a safe and supportive environment for patients.
- Evaluate patients’ medical history, allergies, and current medications to ensure safe surgical outcomes.
- Prepare patients for surgery by explaining procedures, answering questions, and offering emotional support.
- Perform physical assessments, including taking vital signs and body measurements, to establish baseline data for assessing surgical risk.
- Administer preoperative medications as prescribed by the anesthesiologist or surgeon, ensuring correct dosage and that patients understand the effects.
- Collaborate with surgical teams to verify procedure details, identify special equipment or materials needed, and address patient-specific concerns.
- Ensure all preoperative documentation is complete, accurate, and properly filed in the patient’s medical record for legal and medical reference.
- Maintain the preoperative area to ensure it is clean, organized, and well-stocked, complying with health regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Essential:
Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Registered Nurse (RN) - Education:
Associate's Degree or higher
- Experience
Required:
1+ years related experience - Experience Preferred:
Experience with EPIC or similar EHR systems
Listed is the base hiring salary range:
Min = $39.93, Mid = $51.91, Max = $63.89. The salary range is one component of the total rewards/compensation package; actual salary may vary based on factors including skills and experience.
