Position: LPN / LVN - General

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Provide the highest quality direct care services to veterans. Participate in facility meetings, training sessions, and implement continuous improvement practices. Use and develop your potential within a supportive team environment.

Job Duties:

  • Administer medications and perform treatments on an assigned unit as ordered by the physician and within the scope of license.
  • Observe and report the effectiveness of medications and treatments.
  • Ensure an adequate amount of supplies and medications are available.
  • Receive and deliver various information regarding resident medical, social, and functional needs.
  • Participate in receiving and giving of shift reports.
  • Communicate with residents, families, and staff as necessary to ensure residents receive appropriate care from the interdisciplinary team.
  • Complete the initial admission nursing assessment tool on newly admitted residents.
  • Assist with the development of Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments, ongoing quarterly reviews, and care plans.
  • Supervise subordinate staff and assist with direct resident care for completing Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, and observations.
  • Conduct and participate in in-service training and staff development programs for regularly employed staff and other duties as assigned.
  • Train/orient new employees.
  • Perform technical duties as assigned, such as collecting specimens and responding rapidly and appropriately to emergency situations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of resident conditions and changing medical, physical, and psychological care needs. Understanding of the effects of the aging process. Familiarity with the practices and procedures of team nursing. Acquainted with practices and procedures for implementing treatment plans for resident/patient care. Knowledge of pharmacology and medicines. Awareness of federal, state, and agency laws governing practical nursing practices and control of medical supplies and medications.
