Min $39.93, Mid $51.91, Max $63.89 (base hiring salary range; actual salaries may vary by skills and experience)
- Patient Care & Clinical Assessment:
Perform comprehensive psychiatric nursing assessments to determine mental status, risk level, clinical symptoms, withdrawal needs, and behavioral functioning. Synthesize psychiatric, medical, and psychosocial data to inform clinical decision-making and plan of care. Monitor and evaluate patient behavior, affect, safety risks, and changes in clinical condition; initiate appropriate interventions. Establish and update individualized nursing care plans. Ensure compliance with observation levels and timely checks;
escalate changes and collaborate with providers to adjust treatment plans. - Medication Administration & Clinical Management:
Administer medications safely, including psychotropic and PRN medications, per provider orders and facility protocols. Evaluate medication effectiveness and monitor for side effects; provide follow-up as needed. Educate patients about medications and treatment adherence. Document medication administration and patient response accurately and promptly. - Therapeutic Engagement & Crisis Intervention:
Use trauma-informed, recovery-oriented communication and techniques to engage patients. Lead and support de-escalation efforts and crisis intervention using approved behavioral health models. Participate in or lead therapeutic groups, psychoeducation, and community meetings. Promote patient participation in treatment planning and recovery goals. - Safety & Compliance:
Monitor patient safety, conduct milieu rounds, and manage safety observations. Apply and document restraints or seclusion when clinically necessary, in compliance with regulatory standards. Identify environmental risks and respond to safety concerns or escalations. Adhere to hospital policies, CMS regulation, DNV standards, and state requirements. - Collaboration & Communication:
Provide clinical leadership to LPNs, BHTs, and support staff; delegate and oversee care. Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, therapists, case management, and nursing leadership to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care. Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and contribute to care and discharge planning. Ensure documentation meets regulatory and legal standards and maintains HIPAA compliance and professional boundaries. - Professionalism & Accountability:
Demonstrate accountability for clinical practice and patient outcomes. Participate in staff huddles, quality initiatives, and continuing education. Serve as a professional role model and support unit operations including admissions, discharges, and patient flow. Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Essential:
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Associate degree in Nursing
- 2+ years related experience
Education:
Essential:
Associate’s Degree
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or acute inpatient setting
- Crisis Prevention/Intervention (CPI) or equivalent certification
