Food Product Standardization Inspector

The Arizona Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for a full‑time Food Product Standardization Inspector II for our Citrus and Vegetable program. The position is located in the Yuma Arizona office.

Under the general supervision of the Yuma Officer in Charge, the Inspector will conduct fresh produce quality grade inspections in Yuma and surrounding areas, requiring in‐state travel and use of a state vehicle.

• Sample, inspect, and issue certificates from shipping point inspections, applying official USDA grade standards to determine product grade and/or conditions.
• Sample, inspect, and issue certificates per State of Arizona requirements to determine product grade and/or conditions.
• Respond to technical questions from industry on produce; listen, ask questions, provide information, suggestions, or referrals as needed to keep industry informed of product quality.
• Drive a state vehicle (or personal vehicle) to conduct state business.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Basic Math Calculations
• USDA guidelines in sample selection and grading procedures
• Ability to interpret written instructions, rules, and regulations
• USDA Standards on fresh fruit, vegetables, and nuts

• Use of calculator and basic computer skills
• Interpreting and applying US Grade Standards and Inspection handbook instructions
• Handwriting skills and attention to detail
• Consistent and unbiased judgment decision making
