Summary of Function

This position is responsible for providing security at the College or one of its extended campuses, including facilities, dormitories, sporting events, and special events. Duties include patrolling and observing the activities of individuals in and around buildings and grounds, assessing potential issues, and using tact and judgment to resolve problems.

Typical Duties
  • Serves Students. Responsible for the enforcement of security procedures and guidelines. Presents a clean, neat, and orderly uniformed presence to deter criminal activity by patrolling or working at a stationary location.
  • Ensures student and staff accessibility to college areas at the appropriate scheduled time.
  • Responds to reports of disturbances or irregularities and will notify Campus Police for a response. Investigate safety hazards as reported.
  • Creates concise and accurate incident reports and other written articles to document nightly activities.
  • Assists Campus Police, Campus Life, and outside agencies as needed.
  • Aids motorists as required.
  • Participates in educational programs and orientations as needed.
  • Provides assistance and/or directions to students and staff as needed.
  • Supports and participates in strategic planning initiatives and performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous security experience preferred, but not required; documentation must be provided on application materials.
  • Applicants may indicate any additional language proficiencies in their application materials, including English/Spanish, as relevant to the position.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
  • Arizona Driver’s License or Equivalent.

Position Type & Work Schedule
  • Part-time.
  • Up to 19 hours per week.
  • Work flexible schedule to meet the program, department, and/or institutional needs, which may include Fridays, nights, and/or weekends.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret, apply, and follow college policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of or ability to maintain organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • Skill in current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications, Windows, college system platforms, software, and applications especially those specific to the department operations.
  • Skill and ability to be self-directed and to manage one’s own time.
  • Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature.
  • Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion, with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to provide assistance in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, in writing, and in a public setting, and to relate to others in a professional manner.
