Position: Court Security Supervisor (Grade 10)

Job Summary

The incumbent operates as a working manager under general supervision, maintaining the overall security and safety of the Superior Court and Justice Courts in Yuma County. The role includes supervising and deploying subordinate security personnel, assigning and monitoring Court Security Officers, and performing full Court Security Officer duties as needed while providing leadership, guidance, and oversight.

Nature of Work

Provides leadership and supervision to Court Security Officers; monitors security officer activities and professional behavior; assigns security posts and duty stations for optimal coverage; interprets policies, directives, orders, and operational regulations; recommends assistance for the Safety and Security Program; assesses performance and provides input for performance appraisals; evaluates equipment and training and recommends purchases; performs additional supervisory functions; delivers high liability in‑service training covering defensive tactics and firearms;

manages electronic security systems; monitors CCTV, alarm systems; conducts mobile patrols; provides escort services; responds to emergencies and implements procedures; operates metal detectors and X‑ray machines; controls access to restricted areas; interacts with the public, court officers, and law enforcement; prepares incident reports; maintains confidentiality; follows the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees.

Experience and Education

High school diploma or GED plus three years of progressively responsible law‑enforcement, military, private security, or closely related experience that includes one year of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Additional Requirements
  • Pass criminal background and reference checks.
  • Pass psychological evaluation and polygraph examination.
  • Maintain Arizona Driver’s License with a clean record.
  • Participate in year‑round COJET accreditation.
  • Work 10‑hour shifts, weekend rotations, and station rotations.
  • Complete Court Security Officer Academy and Firearms Academy within first 12 months.
  • Maintain all required certifications, qualifications, and firearms proficiency standards.
Physical Demands and Working Environment

Standard office environment and court facilities; exposure to physical harm, infectious diseases, and violence; must restrain persons, remain physically fit, lift and carry supplies, stand, walk, and use stairs for extended periods.

  • State of Arizona statutes, rules, administrative orders, policies and procedures.

  • Identify hazardous conditions and respond quickly.
  • Qualify annually in firearms and less lethal weapons.
  • Complete 40‑hour training and attain certification.
  • Evaluate and resolve security problems quickly.
  • Follow written and oral instructions.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Medical Coverage

The YCEBT is a self‑funded medical plan administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. Employees may choose between two plans:

  • Plan 1: PPO with $1,100 deductible; wellness incentive provides $30 monthly premium reduction.
  • Plan 2:
