Performs the carpentry duties necessary to maintain in good repair building woodwork and equipment such as bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions, doors, floors, stairs, casings, and trim made of wood. Work involves most of the following:
Planning and laying out of work from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions, using a variety of carpenter’s hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments; making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work; and selecting materials necessary for the work. In general, the work of the maintenance carpenter requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
$32.16/ hr. plus $10.00 fringe benefits used towards insurance and 401k!
Job Skills Requirements- Ability to use and knowledge of all tools and equipment that are used by the craft.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, construction drawings, schematics, and diagrams as they pertain to the craft.
- Ability to perform work of the craft in a rapid and efficient manner under extreme conditions.
- Ability to perform work safely under hazardous conditions.
- Ability to trouble shoot and repair most complex problems.
- Expert knowledge of craft theory and craft materials with the ability to apply the theory and select the proper materials.
- Must have the ability to operate numerous equipment for the trade i.e. forklifts, scissor/man lifts, bobcat backhoe, etc.
- Must be able to operate any industrial size tools to complete all tasks i.e. table saws, band saws, planers, sanders and routers.
Physical Requirements
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests.
- Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.
- Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Must be capable of lifting 75 lbs. unassisted.
- Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.
- Must have dependable transportation and a dependable means of communication.
- Must be able speak, write, read, and understand English.
- Must have a well-mannered customer service attitude.
- Must be willing to cross-train in other areas.
- Must be punctual, responsible, and dependable.
- Must demonstrate motivation, initiative, and reliability.
- Must be adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to new or changing instructions.
- Must have a demonstrated ability to follow instructions and company policy.
- Must be able to deliver quality products to the customer and be responsive to their needs.
- Must be safety and security conscious, complying with rules and policies.
- Must be able to work both as part of a team and independently.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and not hold multiple citizen ships.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
- Must be a current SMS employee or affiliate subcontractor for internal postings.
- Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License.
- Metal building component experience.
- Concrete form setting and finishing abilities.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and not hold multiple citizen ships.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
- Must be a current SMS employee or affiliate subcontractor for internal postings.
