We are looking for someone to join Team Yuma as a Water Treatment Plant Mechanic working with the Department of Utilities
- Water Treatment Plant Division.  The ideal candidate will perform a variety of skilled work as it relates to equipment, machinery, and components in City of Yuma Water operating plants.  

Under basic supervision, installs, repairs, inspects, and maintains equipment, machinery and components at Water (W) treatment plants, satellite facilities, and lift stations; maintains and adjusts equipment to meet job specifications and technical codes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Inspects, maintains, adjusts, repairs, installs and replaces Water equipment, machinery, and components in Water operating plants; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills.

* Inspects Water facilities, equipment and systems; performs work within scope of authority, under proper supervision, and in accordance with all quality standards, safety regulations and procedures.

* Checks facilities and equipment to verify proper operating conditions; recognizes abnormally operating equipment; uses standard methods and skills to diagnose conditions, and identify maintenance needs.

* Repairs equipment and components and performs preventive and predictive maintenance on mechanical and electromechanical equipment and components as directed; notifies supervisors of problems beyond the scope of authority.

* Verifies equipment functions meet job specifications and technical codes; reads and interprets technical manuals; assists with maintenance of facilities and grounds.

* Tests and maintains backflow prevention devices.

* Custom fabricates material and equipment; operates heavy equipment.

* Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the "Yuma Way", and complies with all City policies and procedures.

* Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND two years of mechanical and electrical repair, maintenance, and installation experience, preferably in an industrial environment; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge of:

* City policies and procedures.

* Knowledge of tools, equipment and procedures used in Water system maintenance and repairs.

* Safe work practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions in a Water treatment plant.

* Federal and state safety rules and regulations and emergency response procedures in Water treatment plant environments.

Skill in:

* Reading and interpreting technical plans, schematics and specifications.

* Reading and interpreting gauges and recording devices.

* Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures.

* Making routine operating adjustments and repairs to assigned equipment.

* Following safe work practices, and verbal and written instructions.

* Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.

* Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required. A valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License will be required within twelve months of hire. Water Grade 1 certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) is preferred. Additional technical training and certifications may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed on location at City Water Treatment plants with moderate physical requirements.
