Job DescriptionPurpose Statement: The position of Head Coach is to implement the athletic program for assigned sport(s) in accordance with applicable rules and regulations; provide supervision of other coaching personnel and students; use sound instructional techniques; serve as a positive role model; and act as a liaison between the school, other schools, community, and organizations.
Essential Functions- Assess student athletes to provide feedback on performance and determine team placement.
- Develop team and individual practice regimes (strength, speed, agility, nutrition, injury prevention) to enhance performance.
- Create game strategies and plans, analyzing opponent strengths, athlete abilities, and play designs.
- Guide other coaching personnel in instructional techniques, organization of practices, and supervision guidelines.
- Identify program needs and recommend expenditures for activities, equipment, and supplies.
- Implement practice schedules and related events, ensuring efficient program operation.
- Instruct student athletes to promote growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Follow district and site procedures, policies, the Athletic Handbook, Code, and AIA regulations.
- Oversee assistant coaches, student managers, volunteers, etc., providing direction and monitoring activities.
- Respond to inquiries from students, parents, school personnel, media, and college representatives.
- Inform the school athletic director of issues impacting the program (e.g., liability or parent concerns).
- Provide prudent supervision for all athletes involved in the program.
- Maintain high standards of personal conduct and serve as a role model.
- Ensure all coaches are cleared through the YUHSD Human Resources Department.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Principal, or other appropriate administrator.
Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Adapt to changing priorities, administer first aid, apply laws, codes, policies, and regulations.
- Coordinate activities with other schools, districts, and agencies.
- Organize and communicate information and concepts.
- Understand community support organizations, public relations, equipment, injury prevention, treatment protocols, eligibility, attendance, discipline guidelines, safety practices.
- Communicate with diverse backgrounds, handle interruptions, exhibit strong leadership, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, model sportsmanship, motivate athletes, enforce discipline, lead team building, travel to off‑campus events, and work extended hours.
- Work under limited supervision, direct others within a small unit, and utilize resources from other units to perform job functions.
Duties performed in a school environment or outdoors; occasional field trips away from school. Noise level usually moderate.

Certificates & Licenses- Must hold appropriate certification.
- Driver's License & Evidence of Insurability.
- NFHS – Fundamentals of Coaching.
- Concussion in Sports.
- CPR & First Aid certified.
