Irrigators
- Perform general irrigation work in vegetable fields via drip/sprinkler systems – installation, repair, and maintenance of drip lines and sprinklers.
- Operate surface and subsurface irrigation systems with syphon tubes, monitoring elevation and head water through irrigation gates.
- Assist in starting and stopping pumps for drip irrigation fields.
- Maintain vegetable fields: bird control, weeding with a long‑handle hoe around irrigation valves, borders, and trash removal.
- Conduct tractor driving activities for sprinkler irrigation pipe installation.
- Report breakdowns and adhere to safety procedures and performance standards.
- Maintain maintenance and progression sheets.
- Basic tractor driving knowledge; must complete tractor safety training and demonstrate safe operation.
- Transport workers from housing sites and pick‑up points to work sites and back.
- Process paperwork, inspect vehicle fuel, and perform cleaning.
- Ensure drivers are paid a minimum AEWR for actual driving time, paperwork, cleaning, and fueling.
- Drive van on public roads, holding a valid state‑issued driver’s license.
- Pass Class B Physical exam and register as an FLCE driver.
- Employer covers the cost of the California driver’s license, Class B Physical exam, and FLCE registration if applicable.
- Drivers License and FLCE Certificate are job requirements.
- Drive and operate various farm equipment for field preparation: planting, cultivating, fertilizing, farming, and farm maintenance.
- Attach and adjust farm implements (discs, plows, lasers, rippers, cultivators, listers, planters) to tractors, ensuring proper performance.
- Conduct daily maintenance checks before operating tractors.
- Operate tractors safely over difficult terrain, with knowledge of tractor mechanics for minor repairs.
- Understand and operate GPS systems.
- Must complete tractor safety training and demonstrate safe operation.
- One month of work experience as an irrigator and agricultural equipment operator (including harvest work).
- Valid driver’s license, Class B Physical exam, and FLCE driver registration.
- Employer pays for California driver’s license, Class B Physical exam, and FLCE registration if applicable.
