FLSA Status: Exempt
Qualifications- Master’s Degree and appropriate Ohio licensure
- Knowledge of mental health diagnostic criteria and appropriate interventions
- Knowledge of group/individual counseling theories and appropriate use of such with children and families
- One to two years related experience preferred
- Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks
Work with assigned student in all aspects of their situation; investigate report or abuse/neglect/exploitation, etc.; serve as liaison between courts and school; maintain necessary case records; prepare/compile social histories, intake data, and court document and referrals
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS(The below list is not ranked in order of importance.)
- Ensure safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
- Evaluate the students using sound techniques and accepted practices
- Effectively manage the case work, monitoring individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environment
- Prepare clear and timely reports
- Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required
- Provide guidance and counsel to the students which will promote their welfare and their proper educational development
- Attend parent/teacher conferences
- Counsel with colleagues, students and parents
- Attend educational field trips
- Write required report as caseworker
- Establish and maintain working relationship with community agencies
- Ensure continuity of services and community involvement
- Maintain and improve professional competence
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents
- Observe ethics of the social workers profession; exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgment
- Assist in completing agency forms as necessary
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
- Refer students suspected of learning disabilities for diagnosis on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of districts specialists as required
- Assist the administration in implementing all procedures and rules governing student life and conduct
- Provide information and referrals
- Notify parents if student is not meeting goals
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
- Determine eligibility for services
- Encourage and motivate students to stay in school and complete their high school education
- Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., family history, court documents, medical information, etc.
- Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
- Attend conference and workshops as required
- Compile records based on federal and state standards
- Ensure continuity of services and community involvement
- Make provisions for being available to students and parents
- Act as a facilitator and information source in subject area specialty
- Participate on building “teams” when required and agreed upon
- Refer attendance, health, and psychological emotional problems to principal and/or guidance counselor
- Interact with superintendent and/or board of education and present information as requested
- Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
- Schedule student and/or family conferences
- Follow all Governing Board procedures, rules and policies
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the Center.
- Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
- Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
- Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
- Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships
- Serve on committees and co-curricular activities as agreed upon
