Position: Registered Nurse - General Surgery/HLV (Sign-on Bonus Eligible)

Overview of the Position

Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients in an efficient and caring manner. Coordinates care planning with other caregivers and with other areas, adheres to universal precautions, and complies with infection control policies. Works independently with minimal supervision. Ensures the OR environment remains sterile during procedures and meets the needs of the ST, surgeon, anesthesia, and patient during the procedure. Acts as a patient advocate.

  • General OR RNs – Full Time: 60–80 hours every two weeks;
    Part Time: 40 hours every two weeks; PRN:
    Must work at least 96 hours every six months
  • HLV RNs – Full Time: 72–80 hours every two weeks; PRN:
    Must work at least 96 hours every six months
  • Call expectations: 30‑minute response time.
    • General:
    Approx. 1 call shift a week, every 5th weekend, and 1 holiday a year.
    • HLV:
    Approx. 3 call shifts a week, every 3rd weekend, and 2–3 holiday calls a year. Varied shifts dependent on department needs.
Essential Duties
  • Provides direct patient care in accordance with physician orders in a warm and friendly manner.
  • Takes and records measurements or readings.
  • Assesses condition and provides treatment for care of patient.
  • Administers prescribed medications.
  • Accurately captures all applicable patient charges and submits on appropriate form in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates proper decontamination of instrumentation, re‑sterilization and accurate completion of sterilization logs.
  • Facilitates cost reduction per procedure by not opening supplies that are not needed.
  • Participates in maintaining physician preference cards.
  • Accepts on‑call schedule and responds to on‑call activation within 30 minutes.
  • Uses Epic system to enter orders, confirm orders, print reports; may use other computer programs required in area of responsibility.
  • May be asked to serve on department specialty focus team.
  • Documents implant records completely and accurately; ensures correct charges are documented.
  • Follows Time‑Out Policy.
  • Leads counts and ensures Count Policy is followed.
  • Acts as patient advocate.
  • Hands off reporting to recovering nurse.
  • Qualifications
  • Current Ohio RN License and ADN.
  • Current CPR certification, or obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Current ACLS certification, or obtain within one year of employment.
  • Ability to read, write and explain moderately complex information to hospital staff.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, calculate, and prepare medication; observe and analyze any resulting reactions and apply clinical knowledge.
  • Ability to collect data, interpret findings, set priorities, and carry out established plan.
  • Demonstrates competence in age‑specific patient care.

    Physical Requirements

    Ability to sit, stand, stoop, push, pull, bend, and walk for extended periods of time. Ability to lift 50 pounds to waist level. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.
