Overview of Position

Administers skilled direct and indirect patient care to an assigned group of patients according to the patient’s plan of care under the direction of the registered nurse. Adheres to universal precautions and is compliant with infection control policies. Carries out job requirements as delegated by and with the supervision of a registered nurse.

Essential Duties
  • Provides patient care, under the direction of an RN, in a warm and friendly manner.
  • Accurately takes and records measurements or readings.
  • Administers prescribed medications as indicated/documented by prescribing physician.
  • Works collaboratively with other caregivers on the unit.
  • Facilitates cost reduction per procedure by not opening supplies that are not needed.
  • Participates in maintaining physician preference cards.
  • Accepts on-call schedule and responds to on call activation within 45 minutes.
  • Uses Epic system to enter orders, confirm orders, and print reports. May use other computer programs required in the area of responsibility.
  • May be asked to serve on department specialty focus team.
  • Follows timeout policy.
  • Patient advocate.
  • Hand off reporting to the appropriate nursing staff.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with critical thinking related to immediate post-anesthesia management (phase II recovery) as evidenced by airway management, hemodynamics, thermoregulation, PONV, and pain management.
  • Ensures care and maintenance of workstations, including glucometer controls, maintaining warmers (restocking and temperature control), maintaining refrigerator (temperature control), cleaning and restocking of workstation and defibrillator.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in accommodating work schedule, such as staggering shifts and coming early or staying late as necessary.
  • Proficient with post operative area expectations, including observations of patients post sedation from Phase II (conscious sedation or monitored anesthesia care), post operative order sets, and discharge of post procedural patients.
  • Properly decontaminates instruments and/or scopes, re-sterilize, and maintain log of activity.
  • Keeps the equipment coordinator and/or manager informed of problems or suspected problems with the various pieces of equipment in the procedure room.
  • Assists the procedural nurse with documenting implant records and specimen collection completely and accurately. Assists with documenting correct charges.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Ohio LPN license.
  • Current CPR Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of orientation.
  • Completion of an approved pharmacology course.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in an oral and written manner, as well as the ability to observe, assess, guide, and evaluate others.
  • Ability to collect data, interpret findings, set priorities and carry out established plan.
  • Ability to read, calculate, and prepare medication, as well as the ability to observe and analyze any resulting reactions and to apply clinical knowledge.
  • Demonstrates competence in age‑specific patient care.
