Shifts available:
Day shift, Night shift. Schedules available:
Full time – 72 hours every two weeks;
Part time – 24 hours every two weeks.

Overview

Role expectations for the Psych ED‑RN include assessing, planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the care delivery system across the continuum to enhance quality patient care in an efficient and caring manner. Coordinates care planning with other caregivers and other areas, adheres to universal precautions and is compliant with infection control policies. Consults with on‑call Psychiatrist and ED Physician regarding disposition of patients and works independently with minimal supervision.

Duties
  • Completes initial screenings of patients presenting in the ED for behavioral health services.
  • Reviews clinical information and presents it to the ED Physician and the on‑call Psychiatrist to determine appropriate disposition of patients.
  • Documents assessment and discharge plans/discharge disposition of patient in the medical record according to department standards.
  • Verifies insurance coverage when applicable.
  • Facilitates referrals to other healthcare facilities when appropriate.
  • Serves as a resource for physicians, patients, and families.
  • Provides compassionate, quality patient care in accordance with physician orders in a warm and friendly manner.
  • Takes and records measurements or readings.
  • Assesses condition and provides treatment for patient care.
  • Administers prescribed medications.
  • Provides leadership while working collaboratively with other caregivers in the department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge, skills and ability related to patient care and normal procedures in the Psych Central Management Department within own scope of practice as demonstrated in completion of annual competencies.
  • Assists with orientation process of new staff as assigned.
  • Qualifications
    • Associate’s degree in nursing with at least two (2) years of experience in psychiatric/behavioral health nursing.
    • Current licensure as a registered nurse by the State of Ohio.
    • CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
    • Demonstrates competence in age‑specific patient care as documented by the attached checklist.
    • Completes Aggression Management System training within six months of employment.
    • Ability to read, write and explain or describe moderately complex information to other hospital staff.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Ability to communicate well in an oral and written manner.
    • Ability to observe, assess, guide, and evaluate others.
    • Ability to read, calculate and prepare medication, and observe and analyze any resulting reactions and to apply clinical knowledge.
    • Ability to collect data, interpret findings, set priorities and carry out established plan.
