Are you ready to begin a rewarding career in advanced manufacturing? ITW Drawform is seeking a Transfer Press Pre-Apprentice to join our team and develop the foundational skills needed for a successful career in transfer press operations and skilled trades.

This entry-level position is designed for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and an interest in precision manufacturing. Working alongside experienced Operators, Toolmakers, and other manufacturing professionals, you'll receive hands-on training while gaining exposure to multiple areas of our operation.

The Pre-Apprenticeship Program consists of approximately 2,080 hours of structured on-the-job training combined with educational prerequisites that prepare employees for consideration into ITW Drawform's Registered Transfer Press Apprenticeship Program. Throughout the program, progress is documented as employees develop the technical knowledge and practical skills required for long-term success.

What You'll Learn

  • Understand transfer press operations and metal stamping processes.
  • Assist with die setup, die changes, press preparation, and production startups.
  • Safely operate and work around transfer presses and auxiliary equipment.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and attribute gauges.
  • Read and follow operator instruction sheets, work instructions, control plans, and standard operating procedures.
  • Learn Statistical Process Control (SPC) and accurately complete production documentation.
  • Read and interpret basic tooling prints and manufacturing drawings.
  • Assist with material handling, scrap removal, and maintaining organized work areas.
  • Develop a working knowledge of transfer press tooling, die components, and equipment controls.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Build strong safety habits while maintaining quality and production standards.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in structured on-the-job training under the direction of experienced mentors.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn new technical skills and manufacturing processes.
  • Complete assigned training tasks and document progress throughout the program.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all company safety, quality, environmental, and operational procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, trainers, and team members.
  • Attend required educational courses that serve as prerequisites for the Registered Apprenticeship Program.
  • Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Qualifications Required

  • High school diploma or GED (or currently completing).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in manufacturing or skilled trades.
  • Ability to learn technical processes and operate equipment safely.
  • Basic math, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to lift, move, and handle tooling and production materials safely.
  • Dependable attendance and a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Preferred

  • Previous manufacturing, automotive, agricultural, construction, or mechanical experience.
  • Experience using hand tools or power tools.
  • Technical education coursework or skilled trades training.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring instruments.

The Transfer Press Pre-Apprenticeship is designed as a pathway into ITW Drawform's Registered Transfer Press Apprenticeship Program. Employees who successfully complete the program will have developed a strong technical foundation through approximately 2,080 hours of documented hands-on training, mentorship from experienced skilled trades professionals, and completion of required educational prerequisites. Successful completion prepares employees to apply for the Registered Apprenticeship Program and continue building a long-term career in advanced manufacturing.
