Summary:

The Mechanic will keep the district's vehicles in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the education program.

Responsibilities:

* Be able to use technology for diagnostics of all vehicles.

* Properly inspect vehicles and related equipment for reported and unreported defects.

* Properly diagnose defects from repair requests and make necessary corrections.

* Perform all work that can be done more timely and cost effectively in-house. Contract out services, which can be done more timely and cost effectively outside the district.

* Assist with the writing of vehicle specifications.

* Work closely with bus drivers and the supervisor relating to needed repairs.

* Responsible for the correct and efficient installation of parts.

* Aid in keeping the garage clean and organized.

* Maintain accurate records.

* Use the computer system to keep accurate records of work order.

* Keep aware of new industry requirements and equipment.

* Be on-call for various unforeseen situation, which may arise.

Qualifications:

* High School diploma required and appropriate certification and related work experience.

* Master Mechanic certification by the State of Michigan in gas and diesel engines, drive train, suspension, brakes and electrical systems preferred.

* Advanced Technical Training either through a trade school or college program in both gas-and diesel-powered vehicles preferred.

* Demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of and proficiency in school transportation is required.

* Leadership and organizational skills by successfully working harmoniously as a team with the public and school district employees preferred.

* The ability to become certified as a school bus driver and meet all requirements is necessary.

* Such alternatives to the above as deemed appropriate by the district.

Schedule:

40 hours/week

52 weeks/year

Compensation:

Level IV - $20.14 - $31.84
