Division of Engineering:

The Division of Engineering is responsible for providing recommendations pertaining to technical issues coming before the Commission. Issues may include evaluation of engineering capital cost estimates and actual utility plant expenditures, establishment of adequate margins of reserve, and analysis of operating and maintenance costs. Additionally, the Division is responsible for cost-effectiveness determinations, taking into consideration the impacts on Florida's consumers, regulated industries, and the regulatory environment.

Job Duties:

Inspects electric utility facilities and evaluates new construction of Commission jurisdictional electric utility owned facilities for safety compliance.

Input electric safety inspection results in the safety database.

Resolves technical customer complaints, which include power reliability, power quality, damaged equipment, location of utility equipment and verification of electric meters. At the customer's request, witnesses electric meter tests to verify that correct procedures are used and that test equipment is calibrated and working properly.

Extensive vehicle travel is required, at times overnight, to conduct electric safety field inspections. A state-owned vehicle will be provided for these inspections.

This position requires the incumbent to be subject to irregular work hours and call-outs for emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Four years of relevant work experience in the area of engineering, accounting, finance, mathematics, statistics, public administration, business administration or economics is required. An associate's degree and two years of relevant work experience OR a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university may be used as an alternative for the years of required experience.

Special consideration will be given to applicants with knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and the electric utility industry.
