Reports to: Adult Services Coordinator
Schedule: This is a full-time position (37.5 hours/week) which requires two evenings a week, every other Saturday, and regular day hours.
Wage: The Salary Range for this position is $43,602 to $64,740 ($22.36-$33.20/hour), depending on qualifications and in accordance with internal equity
Jobs Supervised: None – may train and oversee department volunteers; may assist in supervising support functions for shift.
Job Summary: The Adult Services Librarian I develops and delivers engaging adult programming while providing outstanding reference, readers' advisory, technology instruction, and public service. This position plans educational, cultural, and lifelong learning opportunities; maintains assigned collections; and connects patrons with library resources through excellent customer service and community engagement. Spanish language proficiency is highly desirable.
Nature and Scope:The Zion-Benton Public Library is seeking a creative, service-oriented librarian who is passionate about engaging adults through innovative programming and exceptional public service. The ideal candidate enjoys planning programs, teaching technology, connecting patrons with books and resources, and building partnerships within the community.
Success in this role requires creativity, organization, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment. In addition to programming, the Adult Services Librarian provides reference and readers' advisory services, develops assigned collections, and stays current with emerging technologies and library trends.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :- Serve as a lead planner for adult programming by developing, coordinating, facilitating, and evaluating engaging educational, cultural, recreational, and lifelong learning opportunities.
- Create diverse programming that appeals to a broad range of adult interests and reflects community needs.
- Manage all aspects of assigned programs including scheduling, presenter coordination, budgeting, room setup, supplies, registration, and evaluation.
- Develop innovative passive programming and self-directed learning experiences.
- Collaborate with library staff to develop and implement large-scale library-wide events.
- Analyze attendance, patron feedback, and community trends to continually improve programming offerings.
- Provide gracious, welcoming, and responsive customer service at the Adult Services Desk.
- Provide reference, readers' advisory, and research assistance in person, by phone, email, and other communication channels.
- Assist patrons with computers, printers, mobile devices, library databases, digital resources, and emerging technologies.
- Provide one-on-one technology instruction and group technology classes for patrons of varying skill levels.
- Develop and maintain assigned areas of the adult collection through selection, ordering, weeding, and evaluation.
- Stay informed about emerging library trends, technology, programming practices, and adult learning.
- Participate in professional development opportunities.
- Assist with departmental projects and strategic initiatives.
- Represent the Library at community events as appropriate
