Registered Nurse, Stem Cell/ICU

Responsibilities
  • Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents the care of hematology/oncology, stem cell transplant, and ambulatory care patients.
  • Assists with special procedures.
  • Directs the care delivered by patient care technicians and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of procedures, treatments, and equipment.
  • Provides care for complex medical hematology/oncology, stem cell transplant, or critical care patients.
  • Manages patients with complex needs including hemodynamically compromised and mechanically ventilated patients.
  • Initiates and maintains complex IV therapy, including thrombolytic administration, vasoactive medications, central IV catheters, dialysis catheters, and arterial lines.
  • Utilizes less invasive, life‑supporting modalities such as BiPAP, ETCO₂ monitoring, arterial pressure–based CO/CI and SVO₂ monitoring, and core temperature monitoring.
  • Provides care for autologous and allogeneic transplant patients, stem cell collection, and ECP patients.
  • Attends in‑house Code Blue and Rapid Response Calls as required.
  • Recognizes cardiac arrhythmias and notifies physician.
  • Works scheduled shifts of 7a.m.–7p.m., rotating three 12‑hour shifts.
Qualifications
  • 1–2 years of acute care and/or stem cell experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited (NLNAC or CCNE) School of Nursing and licensed in the state of Illinois.
  • Obtains OCN Certification within 18 months of hire or completes 36 total CE in Oncology every three‑year Commission of Cancer cycle, with 12 CE each year (Surgical Services exempt).
  • Mains BLS certification throughout employment.
  • Mains ACLS certification upon hire or by completion of orientation, and maintains it thereafter.
  • Demonstrates telemetry competency within 6 months of hire, or has prior critical care experience, completed in‑house critical care courses within 12 months of hire.
  • Completes ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification within 6–12 months of hire.
  • Completes ONS BMT course within 12 months of hire.
