Our client is an internationally active group specialising in the trading of industrial products
, with trading operations in Asia and Switzerland. As part of the continued expansion of its Trading Office in Zug
, we are looking for an experienced and highly capable professional to join the team as Senior Traffic Operator Bulk Commodities
In this key position within the small trading office in Zug, you will be responsible for the end-to-end operational execution of international physical commodity trades, from contract execution through to final settlement
. You will work closely with Trading, Finance, banks, suppliers, buyers and other international counter parties to ensure smooth and efficient trade execution.
The primary focus of the role is on dry bulk commodities, particularly coal and iron ore
. In addition, the position offers exposure to a broader commodities portfolio including agriculture, oil & gas and renewables.
- Independently execute and monitor physical commodity trades from contract execution through to final settlement
- Review and ope rationalise purchase and sales agreements as well as Charter Parties (SPAs, CPs)
- Monitor key contractual terms including laycan, delivery terms (FOB/CFR/CIF) and payment conditions
- Coordinate closely with traders, suppliers, buyers, shipping agents, surveyors and other parties involved in the execution process
- Manage vessel nominations and monitor loading and discharge schedules as well as laytime
- Calculate and monitor demurrage and despatch exposure
- Proactively identify operational risks and coordinate appropriate solutions
- Coordinate international shipping and logistics processes, including vessel scheduling, port operations and cargo movements
- Ensure the accurate and timely preparation, review and submission of all relevant trade and shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading, Certificates of Origin, inspection certificates and commercial invoices
- Liaise with inspection companies, terminals, shipping agents and other service providers
- Ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements
- Maintain complete and accurate trade records in internal systems
- Draft, review and negotiate Letter of Credit terms in line with the underlying contractual obligations
- Work closely with banks, traders and counter parties on LC issuance, amendments and document presentation
- Ensure strict compliance with LC requirements to minimise discrepancies and payment delays
- Monitor payment timelines and follow up on outstanding receivables
- Apply a sound working knowledge of UCP 600 requirements
- Ideally 8-12 years of relevant professional experience in Traffic / Trade Operations within an international commodities trading environment
- Proven hands-on experience in the operational execution of dry bulk commodities, particularly coal and/or iron ore
- Strong understanding of physical commodity trading processes and related documentation
- Solid experience with Letters of Credit and UCP 600
- Very good knowledge of Incoterms, international shipping processes, laytime calculations and demurrage/despatch
- Additional exposure to agriculture, oil & gas or renewables would be an advantage
- Highly structured, reliable and detail-oriented working style with strong problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to manage multiple international transactions simultaneously and perform effectively in a fast-paced trading environment
- Strong communication and coordination skills when dealing with international internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent command of English; additional languages would be an advantage
