Overview

We are looking for a credit risk professional to join Swiss Re’s Credit & Surety Reinsurance Europe team in Zurich. The role involves owning underwriting decisions, building relationships with European insurers, and shaping business strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and underwrite treaty and facultative reinsurance opportunities, evaluating risk profile, exposure, profitability, and portfolio impact through robust analysis.
  • Own and be accountable for underwriting recommendations and decisions, exercising independent judgement aligned with Swiss Re’s risk appetite, governance framework, and strategic objectives.
  • Negotiate reinsurance terms and conditions with clients and brokers, ensuring commercially sound and mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Build and develop strong client relationships with insurance companies, brokers and other market participants across Europe, contributing to the identification of new business opportunities.
  • Monitor market developments, emerging risks and portfolio performance to inform underwriting decisions and support sustainable business growth.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders—including Client Markets, Credit Risk Management, Claims, Contracts, Business Services and Finance—to ensure seamless end‑to‑end execution.

Credit & Surety Reinsurance at Swiss Re provides tailored solutions to insurers writing Trade Credit, Surety and Political Risk business worldwide. Our Europe team is a close‑knit, highly international group that works with some of the most prominent insurers in the region across diverse markets, products and client segments.

About You

You are intellectually curious, commercially minded, and possess strong analytical skills, sound risk judgement, and a genuine passion for building relationships. You take full ownership of your underwriting decisions, navigate complexity, work across cultures, and communicate confidently both internally and externally.

Qualifications
  • Academic background in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Law or a related discipline.
  • Several years of professional experience in Credit & Surety (re) insurance underwriting, credit risk management, trade finance, guarantees, corporate banking, structured finance, export finance or a related risk‑assessment role.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk, financial analysis and underwriting principles, with demonstrated ability to apply risk‑based decision‑making in complex situations.
  • Ability to assess complex risks from both an individual transaction and portfolio perspective, balancing analytical rigour with commercial pragmatism.
  • Strong relationship‑management and negotiation skills combined with sound commercial judgement and a client‑centric mindset.
  • Fluency in English and Italian, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to meet clients and attend industry events.
  • Additional European language skills such as German, French or Spanish are a valuable asset.
  • Familiarity with European insurance and financial services markets, including regulatory frameworks and market dynamics.
Salary

For Switzerland, the base salary range for this position is between CHF 132,000 and CHF 198,000 for a full‑time role, with the specific salary offered based on the role’s requirements, scope, complexity, and your profile. Commensurate with experience, you may also be eligible for additional rewards and benefits, including an attractive performance‑based annual bonus.

Work Model

The company follows a hybrid work model. The expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
