The role sits within Legal, in a team dedicated to supporting the Business Unit Exchanges, one of four Business Units Exchanges operates markets in Switzerland, Spain, and the UK making this a truly international mission. Your primary focus will be the Swiss Stock Exchange, while collaborating closely with colleagues in Spain and the UK to deliver integrated solutions across markets.
You will join a small, international team of lawyers working with stakeholders across the business and colleagues in Legal & Compliance and other corporate functions.
- Provide legal advice to the Business Unit Exchanges on a wide range of topics, from day-to-day matters to strategic, group-wide projects involving international collaboration
- Analyze and assess business initiatives for their compliance with applicable laws, such as Swiss supervisory law (e. g. Swiss Financial Market Infrastructure Act), EU regulations (e. g. MIFID and MIFIR), competition law, contract law, and regulations of the exchange’s self-regulatory body (e. g. Listing Rules or Trading Rules)
- Work closely with internal stakeholders across the Business Unit Exchanges and Corporate Functions and assess legal risks and provide recommendations on actions options within the regulatory framework of trading of securities such as equities, structured products, exchange traded funds or bonds
- Prepare submissions to, and liaise with, FINMA, the Swiss regulator, as part of key interactions with authorities, and support the Business Unit Exchanges in its diverse and frequent dealings with FINMA
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements with clients, suppliers, partners or other third parties, in particular relating to reference and market data services
- Manage out-of-court legal disputes as well as instruct and lead external lawyers
- Act as corporate secretary for Swiss SIX Group entities belonging to the Business Unit Exchanges
- Master’s degree in law from a Swiss university and bar admission, further education (e.g., dissertation/LLM) is an advantage
- relevant professional experience in a law firm (preferred) and/or as in-house counsel in the financial sector
- Pragmatic, solution-oriented working style with high quality standards and ability to work in a high pace and a fast-changing environment
- Strong interest in exchange business, financial market infrastructure topics, and the ambition to deepen your specialization in exchange and securities law and to familiarize yourself with highly technical aspects of exchange operations and trading processes
- Ambition to work independently and take responsibility in a small team
- Excellent German (both verbal and writing) and business-fluent English
