Norfolk Christian Schools:
Established in 1952 in Norfolk, an independent city in southeast Virginia, Norfolk Christian Schools is a nondenominational, fully accredited Christian day school offering innovative Pre-K through grade 12 programs. Throughout the decades, Norfolk Christian Schools has maintained a standard as one of the premier, fully accredited Christian schools in the country. We strive to provide our students with a solid college preparatory curriculum with advanced placement courses, college prep courses PSAT, SAT and ACT taught by dedicated faculty who are second to none.
Norfolk Christian Schools offers a complete Christ-centered, college preparatory program taught by faculty committed to the success of every student. Through the active and challenging pursuit of scholarship and truth, NCS seeks to equip students with skills needed to cultivate a lifetime of learning.
Lower School:
The lower school environment is safe, peaceful, joyful, and full of love and learning. Teachers are equipped to instruct using innovative and current techniques and strategies so that all students will benefit from the classroom experience. The major emphases in pre-kindergarten through first grade are introduction of reading through a strong phonics-based program, establishment of initial mathematical concepts, and implementation of proper writing mechanics.
Learning to read develops into reading to learn and students experience critical opportunities for communication and expression of their ideas in more advanced forums. They are taught the necessary study skills that will equip them in their future academic endeavors.
Middle School:
The Middle and High School levels of learning (grades 6-12) comprise the NCS Upper School, which seeks to address the unique academic and spiritual needs of the adolescent and teen-aged student.
Middle School recognizes adolescence as a time of physical, spiritual and emotional change and therefore offers a curriculum that promotes greater organization and study skills, long-term time management and abstract thinking.
Advanced and regular level courses are offered for 6th-8th grade. Core subjects include English, math, general science, US history, foreign languages and geography. Electives include computer, art, drama, music.
High School:
To graduate, students must earn a minimum of 21, 23 or 25 academic credits to receive either a Gen¬eral Studies Diploma, an Advanced Studies Diploma, or Honors Diploma. These credits are in addition to the mandatory requirement of one Bible class per semester each year in high school. There is also a community service requirement of 20 hours each year.
