What is involved:
Accountancy professionals known as accountants are responsible for interpreting financial activity within and outside their organization. Accountants in general create financial reports that are used by management, regulators and shareholders. The daily record keeping of financial activity is known as bookkeeping. Through distance learning you can study for your accountancy exams at your own pace.
There are several professional bodies of accountants which allow their members to certify by distance education. Once you have passed the relevant set of exams you can use titles to indicate your qualification level e.g. Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA / FCCA ), Chartered Accountant (FCA / CA or ACA), Management Account (ACMA, FCMA or AICWA), certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified General Accountant (CGA). Members of accountancy organizations must comply with the codes of practice set out by the association.
Career opportunities:
There are several subcategories of accounts. You
should decide which path you wish to go down
before signing up to any course. The main
accountancy divisions are as follows:
- Financial accounting – this is the process of
recording and communicating financial
information about a company. This information is
freely available for public listed companies.
- Management accounting – this involves
gathering information about an organization for
use internally. This information is strictly
confidential and only available to senior
management within the company and decision
makers.
- Tax accounting – this is the accounting
discipline that involves communicating with
auditors and tax regulators. A history of all
financial transactions must be maintained for
inspection at any time. Tax accountants are also
responsible for ensuring that all regulations
are complied with.
- Auditing – this is related to accountancy but
is in itself a separate practice.
Completing your professional accountancy exams
through distance learning is a flexible option
made available to fit in with students hectic
schedules. You can complete modules in your own
time and when ready can sit as many or as few
exams as you wish in one sitting. Many
universities offer two types of home study
options. 1) You can attend virtual classes by
linking into a tutor in real time. You will need
a headset and microphone to participate. 2) Your
university or colleges gives you access to the
courseware on registration. It is up to you to
go through the material at your own time and
book your exam when ready. |
