Queenstown Resort College (QRC) is New Zealand's first tertiary college dedicated to meeting the demands of an international tourist resort. QRC offers world-class hospitality and tourism education at all levels - from tertiary students to industry executives, tourists and visitor groups. Adventure Tourism Management
The Diploma of Adventure Tourism Management is an 18 month full-time course, which consists of four on-campus terms and a six month internship, where students complete a fully paid work placement with an adventure tourism business. Adventure tourists travel to a destination primarily to participate in outdoor activities which involve a combination of physical activity, exertion, risk (real or perceived) and thrill. As such, adventure tourism management requires knowledge, skills and understanding in six core areas: Social and global contexts; Business management; Communication skills; Operational management; Resource management and Work and practical experience.
Hospitality Management
The Diploma of Hospitality Management is a two-year full-time course, which consists of on-campus terms and internship terms, where students complete a fully paid work placement with a hotel or resort. The first two on-campus terms provide an introduction to the principles and practice of hotel and restaurant operations. There is training in QRC’s hospitality demonstration suite, and training in the kitchen, restaurant and front office facilities of a working hotel. The second two on-campus terms focus on hotel and restaurant management. There one elective paper each on-campus term. During the internship terms, you will complete 1000 hours of paid work in a hotel or resort. If you prefer, you can arrange to do your internship in Queenstown or elsewhere in New Zealand - or even overseas, with prior approval from the Head of School.
Internships (Tourism and Hospitality)
Queenstown Resort College offers a student internship service for paid work placements in the tourism and hospitality industry. All student internships are with tourism, hospitality and hotel operators to help students prepare for their hospitality career. All placements are in Queenstown, New Zealand’s premier tourist destination and adventure capital of the world, so they are ideal for persons seeking exciting study internships abroad.
