Founded in 1983, The Open University of Japan (OUJ) has grown to become the largest distance education institution in Japan.

We provide a wide range of distance learning courses taught in Japanese to students living in Japan. Non-Japanese students may enrol but must live in Japan for the entire duration of your study with a valid visa.

OUJ offers two types of teaching: broadcast / distance learning lectures, and schooling workshops in more than 3,000 study centers throughout Japan.
