This position is responsible for performing general duties on the maintenance of plant equipment, facilities, vehicles and grounds.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAble to operate and maintain riding mowers, push mowers, trimmers and related lawn care equipment.
Able to maintain appearance and cleanliness of plant structures and equipment by painting and general cleaning duties.
Ability to operate various power or hand tools as needed and maintains tools in operating condition.
Able to perform labor in wet, semi-confined areas.
Maintains accountability of tools and maintenance equipment throughout the plant.
Performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITIONAbility to perform manual labor.
Skill and ability to operate and mechanically service designated machinery, tools and equipment.
Skill and ability to carry out assigned tasks.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLSThe Water Works Superintendent assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINESGuidelines include federal and state drinking water regulations, OSHA regulations, and city policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORKThe purpose of this position is to perform general duties in the maintenance of water treatment plant equipment, buildings, vehicles and grounds. Successful performance helps ensure the provision of safe drinking water for all customers.
CONTACTSContacts are typically with co-workers, vendors, contractors.
Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
Work is typically performed inside water treatment facilities, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to machinery with moving parts, insects or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITYNone.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMust be at least 18 years old
Must possess and maintain a valid South Dakota driver’s license.
RESIDENCYAll new hires must reside within 40 miles of city limits unless specific approval of City Manager.
