Job Description
Provide custodial support for the Abilene State Supported Living Center, including cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining a safe environment for residents and staff. Work under close supervision with minimal latitude for independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions- Attend work regularly; may be required to work specific shift schedules, rotating schedules, extended shifts, or overtime per agency leave policy.
- Help maintain a clean working environment, including floors, restrooms, bedrooms, and building exterior and interior.
- Clean floors, walls, furniture, and provide bed and linen management.
- Clean and sanitize isolation areas and nursing station to prevent transmissible disease.
- Help residents maintain optimal health and provide a safe environment for themselves, persons served, and others.
- Document responsibilities accurately and timely.
- Participate in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation as required.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, standards, and sanitation regulations.
- Skill in operating environmental services cleaning equipment.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand/walk on hard floors for extended periods.
- Ability to work harmoniously and productively with co‑workers and residents.
- Ability to work irregular hours and safely with chemicals.
Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain one within 90 days after hire. Out‑of‑state license holders must provide an original certified driving record.
Initial Screening Criteria- Graduation from a senior high school or equivalent.
- Paid work experience in any field.
- Unpaid housekeeping/custodial service experience.
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, etc.). Males aged 18‑25 must register with the Selective Service. All employees are subject to random drug testing. Flexibility in work hours is required, including overtime, extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
