Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Position Summary
Performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure safety, proper functionality, and aesthetics of facilities, equipment, or fixtures by following established preventive maintenance schedules and guidelines. Inspects, cleans, and repairs facilities, equipment, or fixtures. Observes and documents signs of wear and tear. Gathers capital expense information. Recommends repair needs to eliminate ongoing and future repairs. Determines replacement needs. Documents preventive maintenance activities. Uses heavy machinery.
Manages work orders, maintenance schedules, and contractors by completing and providing required written and electronic information (for example, expense vouchers, weekly summaries, work orders, maintenance logs). Conducts price comparison of parts and travel-related costs. Orders parts and replacement equipment and tracking orders. Records purchases and usage. Submits warranty claims. Complies with Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Environmental Protection Agency regulations and guidelines.
Ensures quality work is completed that complies with federal, state, and local regulations. Ensures contractors follow Walmart quality standards, safety requirements, and meet contract requirements. Identifies and reports deficiencies. Unloads and stores equipment. Transports equipment between facilities. Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports the company’s mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity. Uses the Open Door Policy.
Maintains company vehicles in accordance with company policies and procedures. Coordinates and transports vehicles for required maintenance, ensuring beforehand that alternate driving support is arranged. Safely operates motor vehicles and ensures that the vehicle has all required documents. Checks fuel and water levels, brake condition, signals, and lights. Submits maintenance invoices for payment. Verifies the coverage and validity of vehicle insurance.
Wears company uniform and badge in accordance with company policies and procedures. Operates, inspects, and maneuvers heavy machinery and powered equipment (for example, forklifts, material handling equipment, industrial machines, shop equipment, vehicles) in accordance with training, certification requirements, and safety procedures. Performs pre-operation safety checks and post-operation inspections to ensure equipment is safe, functional, and compliant with applicable standards. Identifies unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, or potential hazards and takes appropriate corrective action or escalates as required.
Leads and participates in teams by using and sharing resources, information, and tools; determining customer needs and business priorities; coordinating and executing work assignments; providing advice, feedback, and support to ensure timelines and work quality are achieved; and modeling and helping others with how to adapt to change or new challenges. Develops, communicates, and implements processes and practices to meet business needs by collaborating with managers, co-workers, customers, and other business partners;
analyzing and applying information from multiple sources; monitoring progress and results; and identifying and addressing improvement opportunities. Demonstrates, promotes, and supports compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity by explaining, guiding, and demonstrating how to apply these in executing business processes and practices; implementing related action plans; using the Open Door Policy; and assisting management with correcting ethical and compliance issues and problems.
- Vocational or technical certification and 2 years' experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area.
- Option 2: 4 years' experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
- Ability to read and speak the English language as required by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
- Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
- Completion of a 2-year Vocational or Technical trade program.
- License in related trade in city and/or state where job is located.
- No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
- No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
- Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
