SUMMARY
The Student Maintenance Assistant Intern will assist in maintaining District buildings in excellent operating condition to ensure that maximum use may be made of facilities at all times. This role provides hands-on experience in various trades while supporting a safe and functional learning environment for students. This opportunity will provide valuable experience to students for our District's Diploma Plus initiative in the trades and work force.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the Director of Facilities and Facilities Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of experienced facilities staff, the intern will:
- Have regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
- Perform general maintenance work inside and outside the facilities, including tasks related to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and other building components.
- Work in all climate and weather conditions as needed for facility upkeep.
- Support preventive maintenance efforts and assist with digital record-keeping.
- Learn the operation of District systems, such as boilers, water treatment, and building management systems.
- Become proficient with preventive maintenance and work order tracking systems, including the location of labor and materials.
- Organize and maintain the maintenance work areas for all Adrian Public Schools buildings and vehicles.
- Unload shipments, load and make deliveries, and assist with moves between campus buildings.
- Work collaboratively with others on tasks requiring multiple workers.

- Education:
Must be a current Adrian High School student that has completed their sophomore or junior year, AND be at least 16 years of age. - Work Permits:
All applicants must have work permit CA-7 on file before performing any work, including training. - Letters of Recommendation:
Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation that specifically speak to their strong work ethic, character, discipline, punctuality, and follow-through. - Computer
Skills:
Must be proficient with the Windows operating system and demonstrate competence in using email, spreadsheets, and operating a smartphone. - Language & Reasoning:
Ability to read safety rules, MSDS sheets, and maintenance instructions. Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written or oral form. - Employability
Skills:
Punctuality, proactive communication, strong work ethic, follow through, and self initiative are crucial attributes that will be expected of any successful applicant.
Frequently required to stand, walk, squat, and reach. Must frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 90 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Regularly works indoors but will work outdoors in all weather conditions. The intern will work near moving mechanical equipment and must be able to meet deadlines.
