Maintenance Worker
The City of Aiken Public Services Department is accepting applications for Maintenance Workers in the Solid Waste Division.
Examples of Duties
- Candidate must be able to follow a solid waste route book, addressing issues and documenting said issues, in writing, on the route ahead of the sanitation trucks
- Must be able to stand for periods of time on the back of a garbage or recycling truck, which involves continual stepping on and off the truck and getting garbage or recycle carts and then dumping them in the truck
- Candidates also assist with the weekly cleaning and greasing of the truck
- Employee is subject to performing all maintenance work within the department, including but not limited to grounds maintenance, yard debris collection, janitorial services, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be able to read and write and deal effectively with the public
- Must have a valid driver's license in good standing

Retirement
Full-time employees participate in the Defined Contribution 401(a) Retirement Plan. After one year of employment, the employee will begin contributing 6% to the Plan, with the City making a matching 6% contribution. Employees are fully vested after 5 years of service.
