As the Maintenance Manager you will be responsible for overseeing the overall direction and leadership for the Maintenance Department and, at a strategic and facility level, identify priorities and recommend solutions to support the business. You will employ a broad‑based, total productive maintenance approach with small projects and P&L oversight.
This role reports to the Plant Manager and will have direct reports numbering up to 20 staff. The Maintenance Manager will partner with the Site Reliability Engineer to minimize downtime, track maintenance KPIs, and implement TPM standard methodologies.
The Maintenance Manager will manage the maintenance budget and strategy, champion Drax’s Safety Culture by leading, creating, and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, following standards and procedures, and complying with legislation and regulations.
Responsibilities- Manage the maintenance work process and personnel at a wood pellet facility.
- Communicate directly and frequently with the Operations department to coordinate maintenance and repair work in process areas.
- Navigate a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to execute work orders, order spare parts, and assist in building maintenance history of plant equipment.
- Apply Lean/Six Sigma tools such as SMED, Kaizen, and Kanban.
- Lead teams in planning and implementing plant improvements.
- Ensure that all maintenance technicians are trained on the most updated version of procedures.
- Monitor operation of plant equipment and systems.
- Communicate and support the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) philosophy to increase plant reliability.
- Work with the reliability department to implement recommended practices and participate in training.
- Develop routine maintenance policy and strategy in line with manufacturer and plant manager recommendations to maximize plant efficiency and availability.
- Mentor and coach the maintenance team to implement cultural changes.
- Direct and supervise the workflow of maintenance employees.
- Continuously seek and implement methods to improve plant productivity and efficiency without compromising product quality, safety, or environmental standards.
- Identify and assess foreseeable risks and implement control measures to an acceptable level; assist in developing training manuals and Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMP).
- Communicate company expectations and business goals to all maintenance team employees.
- Communicate professionally and clearly across all levels.
- At least 5-10 years of maintenance or related experience with responsibility for maintenance on assets.
- Previous supervisory experience required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills; CMMS experience preferred.
- High School Diploma required; B.S. Engineering or related certifications a plus.
