Job Description
Custodian (200 days)
Job goal:
To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.
Reports to:
Building Principal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:
- Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
- Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
- Uphold Board policies, including the anti-harassment program.
- Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
- Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.
Essential Job Functions:
- Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
- Clean hallways, restrooms, and entrances after school each day, and during the day when their condition requires it.
- Sweep classrooms daily and dust furniture.
- Remove trash from the building and campus daily in accordance with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
- Keep campus free from rubbish.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms to include toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, floors, walls, etc., daily and drinking fountains daily.
- Clean all chalkboards at least once a week.
- Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, vacuum, and otherwise care for floors to keep them clean, attractive, and well preserved.
- Clean walls, ceilings, vents, windows (inside and out), etc.
- Cut grass with push mower, riding mower, tractor, bush hog, weed eater and hand tools.
- Make minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and other handyman type building repairs.
- Report major repairs needed promptly to the Head Custodian and Principal.
- Report immediately to the principal any damage to school property.
- Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
- Transport, load, and unload supplies and equipment as needed.
- Keep an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisition such needed replacements far enough in advance to ensure delivery in a timely manner to not hinder the tasks to be completed.
- Other duties as assigned by the principal or assistant principal.
Qualifications:
- Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
- Knowledge and ability to operate hand tools, electrical and gasoline tools, lawnmowers, tractors, weed-eaters, scrubbing machines, vacuums, and other machines.
- Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to lift a minimum of sixty pounds.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to compare, analyze, communicate, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills and compile. Occasionally required to copy and negotiate.
Environmental DemandsThe environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job and are not meant to be all inclusive. Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses. Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities.
Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.
This is a ten-month contract (200 days). Salary range is based upon the board approved salary schedule.
Work ScheduleThe work day shall be established by the building principal but shall not exceed 8.0 hours per day, excluding ½ hour for a duty free lunch, unless other arrangements are made by the building principal.
EvaluationPerformance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Support Personnel.
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $24,968 to $26,750 Per Year
