Job SummaryThe Supervisor Underground Maintenance is responsible for the day‑to‑day repair activities, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting on all mine equipment to ensure the safe, economical, and efficient operation of the machinery.
Key Responsibilities- Visibly support and champion Peabody’s missions and values
- Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System
- Plan, direct, and lead the work of a crew or team
- Supervise maintenance and repair personnel by providing technical counsel and advice, answering questions on methods or materials, and checking workmanship to ensure conformance to safety regulations
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely maintenance records
- Implement short‑term and long‑term maintenance planning, scheduling, and forecasting under the direction of the Maintenance Manager
- Assist the Maintenance Manager in the periodic review of maintenance and repair reports
- Provide input into analyzing costs for potential improvements
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining the proper flow of parts and inventory
- Analyze failed components for failure reasons and implement changes to eliminate or reduce repeat failures
- Keep the Maintenance Manager and/or Mine Management advised of work progress, job completions, and results
- Evaluate workforce efforts and provide training in areas of weakness
- Stay abreast of latest maintenance methods and equipment through technical publications and vendor representatives
- Monitor maintenance employee work performance and operating conditions to ensure prevention of accidents in line with safety objectives and applicable regulations
- Make recommendations for equipment changes or replacements
- Supervise equipment change/upgrade efforts and any replacement/relocation activities
- Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental, and statutory requirements
- Other duties as assigned by the company
- 2 years of experience maintaining heavy diesel equipment required
- Stand for up to 4 hours per shift
- Sit for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
- Work from elevated positions, walk/climb stairs/steps, and use ladders
- Wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required
- Perform repetitive hand and wrist motions and exhibit rapid reflex movements of the arms or legs with good hand‑to‑eye coordination
- Lift/raise 10–50 lbs without mechanical assistance frequently during the shift
- Work in extreme conditions (changing weather, dust, mud, varying noise, light/dark, artificial light, confined spaces)
- Work various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, rotating schedules, weekends, and holidays
- Stand for prolonged periods on uneven, rocky surfaces for the entire shift
- Sit for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
- Walk for up to 4 hours at a time through different mine sections with varying clearance and headroom
- Wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required
- Bend or stoop for a full work period as required by mine height
- Climb stairs/steps and use ladders
- Perform repetitive hand and wrist motions with rapid reflex movements and good hand‑to‑eye coordination
- Lift 25–50 lbs frequently and occasionally lift up to 80 lbs
- Work in extreme conditions (dust, mud, varying noise, light/dark, artificial light, confined spaces)
- Work various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, rotating schedules, weekends, and holidays
- Sit for up to 8 hours
- Use a computer and communicate effectively via email and phone
- Review paper and electronic documents and enter data into a computer
- Manage files in cabinets and discuss issues by telephone and in person
- Operate copier, fax machine, and related office equipment
- High School Degree or GED equivalent required
- Trade certification(s) required
