About the Role
We are currently seeking an Outby Supervisor to join our Production team at our Shoal Creek Mine, located in Oakman, Alabama. Shoal Creek Mine is one of the deepest underground coal mines in the United States. Located on the Black Warrior River, this site produces one of the highest quality metallurgical coal in the United States. With nine‑foot‑tall workings, a brand‑new longwall, and more than 15 years of projected coal reserves, Shoal Creek Mine is an ideal place to work.
Located between Jefferson, Walker, and Tuscaloosa counties in Alabama, the area offers beautiful rivers, lakes, landscapes, and rolling hills at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains. Oakman is about an hour from Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, both of which provide diverse, family‑friendly communities with something for everyone, including vibrant downtowns, safe neighborhoods, and excellent schools, including the University of Alabama and other area colleges.

Responsibilities- Visibly support and champion Peabody’s missions and values.
- Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System.
- Plan, direct and lead the work of a crew or team.
- Coordinate all aspects of development, and/or longwall, and/or production, and/or continuous operator activity.
- Liaise with superintendents, supervisors, technical services staff, maintenance personnel and contractors.
- Identify potential improvements to the mining process.
- Ensure activities are aligned to planned development and production forecasts and budgets.
- Monitor actual versus target production and initiate remedial action as appropriate.
- Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
- Conduct and review hazard and risk assessments and communicate outcomes to all mining personnel.
- Promote safety among the workforce.
- Conduct proper examinations as required by state, federal and mine policy.
- Coordinate required preventive maintenance and repairs to equipment and communicate results.
- Coordinate and conduct crew safety and information sharing meetings.
- Coordinate and conduct training for safety, task, and operational needs.
- Other duties as assigned by the company.
This position may require you to work various shifts – day, evening and night – with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays as deemed necessary.

Qualifications- 2 years of relevant mining experience required.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Trade certificate preferred.
- Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods on uneven, rocky surfaces.
- Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
- Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time.
- Walking ability will be judged according to the SCSR emergency evacuation plan required and approved by MSHA.
- Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by the company and MSHA.
- Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period.
- Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs or steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.
- Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs as well as good hand‑to‑eye coordination.
- Must have the ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally lift items up to 75 pounds.
- Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
- Cannot have an uncontrolled condition likely to cause loss of consciousness or the inability to control a motor vehicle or large machinery.
