Program Description

The Alameda headquarters serves as a central hub supporting Felton’s regional programs and daily operations. The Custodial Support Specialist ensures that the entire facility remains thoroughly sanitized, safe, secure, and ready for daily operations during standard business hours,
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Job Description
  • Maintain overall building security, ensuring all exterior and interior doors and windows are fully locked and secured at the end of each day.
  • Immediately report any building security vulnerabilities (e.g., broken locks, damaged windows, compromised access points) to supervisors or designated personnel.
  • Promptly fulfill, update, and close out assigned Facilities Help Desk tickets in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure building exits remain clear and fire doors are unlocked and accessible during business hours.
  • Clean and sanitize facility work areas to ensure compliance with health and safety standards and maintain a professional appearance:
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors daily across both stories; spot mop and dust as needed.
  • Dispose of all trash, compost, and recycling daily; maintain garbage dumpsters.
  • Power wash sidewalks and pick up litter around the perimeter of the property.
  • Dust and spot clean furniture, shelves, moldings, and other surfaces.
  • Organize and clean storage areas as requested.
  • Keep utility and service areas clean; maintain equipment and floors.
  • Clean, sanitize, and stock all restrooms.
  • Disinfect and maintain common areas, offices, stairways, and assigned spaces.
  • Perform light, non-technical building upkeep ("soft maintenance")
    • Replace light bulbs and batteries.
    • Tighten loose fixtures, handles, and hardware.
    • Complete minor touch-up painting.
    • Assemble or relocate office furniture.
    • Perform routine visual inspections of building spaces.
    • Clear minor obstructions and keep walkways safe.
  • Promptly report major plumbing, electrical, HVAC, elevator, or structural issues to supervisors or designated personnel.
  • Work collaboratively with and assist team members as needed to support overall facility operations.
  • Support other Felton locations with occasional cross-site work as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in custodial work, building security, or light facility maintenance.
  • Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English sufficiently to meet job requirements.
  • Ability to pass a Department of Justice (DOJ) fingerprint clearance.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 60 lbs. unassisted, and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior facilities workers.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely use basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work occasional overtime and support cross-site assignments as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of light industrial tools.
  • Knowledge of general OSHA safety standards.

Schedule:

Onsite at Felton Institute headquarters;
Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. (with occasional overtime and travel to other agency sites as required)
FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $25 per hour
Benefits (subject to election and eligibility):
