Fleet Maintenance Manager
The purpose of this classification is to perform managerial work functions associated with overseeing replacement, purchase, repair and maintenance of the city's fleet of automotive and mechanical equipment. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals; interviews job applicants; selects new employees.
Plans, directs and coordinates the daily operations and activities of the Fleet Management Division; organizes and prioritizes the City's fleet program; provides advice, guidance, technical expertise, and specifications for vehicles and equipment to staff members.
Ensures divisional compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; plans and directs a city-wide maintenance program to ensure proper maintenance and replacement of vehicles, machinery and equipment.
Participates with Finance and Central Services Departments to coordinate city-wide fleet purchases and funding.
Directs and implements precautionary work techniques and safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and equipment.
Supervises the diagnosis, maintenance, and performance of general mechanical repair work on city's fleet of vehicles, light and heavy equipment, and other machinery; inspects wrecked/damaged vehicles/equipment and oversees repair work; determines whether work should be performed by outside service providers; selects vendors and inspects completed work.
Supervises preventive and routine maintenance activities; coordinates preventive maintenance schedules; ensures that all vehicles and equipment receive appropriate maintenance.

Manages and maintains city vehicles/equipment inventory; ensures adequate inventory levels of equipment, tools or supplies; initiates requests for new or replacement materials; supervises annual inventory audits; maintains inventory records.
Researches and evaluates vehicle, equipment and tool usage, manufacturing trends, and market availability for possible City and County application; initiates equipment specifications; studies new equipment for special uses and assists departments in evaluating characteristics to meet operating needs.
Prepares budget estimates for City and County vehicles and equipment, prepares vehicle and equipment specifications for bids, attends pre‑bid conference and bid openings; evaluate bids for compliance to specifications.
Monitors vendor performance; ensures compliance of vendor contracts associated with fleet maintenance; processes vendor estimates and invoices.
Processes a variety of documentation associated with departmental operations, per established procedures and within designated time frames; distributes documentation or maintains records as appropriate.
Develops long‑term and short‑term plans and goals for the division; develops and implements division policies and procedures; revises/updates as necessary.
Develops and administers division budget; monitors expenditures.
Complies and tracks various administrative and statistical data pertaining to division operations; performs research as needed; makes applicable calculations; analyzes trends; prepares or generates reports; maintains records.
Generates manual and/or computerized reports; balances reports; analyzes data and identifies trends; submits reports to appropriate professional agencies or individuals; maintains records.
Reads, interprets, and writes technical specifications and data.
