Position Overview

The purpose of this classification is to perform routine housekeeping tasks associated with the care and maintenance of City of Albany assigned facilities at various locations and vehicles to include buses.

Responsibilities
  • Perform general cleaning/housekeeping tasks for interior cleaning and exterior washing of buses and vehicles, checking fluid levels, and replenishing fluid levels.
  • Maintain materials and supplies.
  • Respond to emergency requests to clean up bodily fluid spills or other non‑blood borne pathogen spills on the road or at the facility.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning tasks; clean bathrooms, replenish restroom supplies, replace light bulbs, and paint inside and outside of facilities as needed.
  • Train, supervise, and assign work of volunteers, part‑time employees, and inmate labor; ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Perform random or routine grounds‑keeping tasks such as mowing, edging, weeding, mulching, raking, collecting trash, cleaning sidewalks and parking lots, clearing brush and stumps, applying insecticide/herbicide, and performing related tasks; haul collected trash to the landfill.
  • Operate a variety of grounds‑keeping/maintenance equipment such as blowers, mowers, weed eaters, tillers, trenchers, seeders, shovels, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry tools, and related equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on grounds‑keeping equipment; perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Complete reports of landscape/grounds conditions and pest problems to submit to supervisor.
  • Notify supervisor of needed tools and supplies.
  • Complete various inspection forms, correspondence, vehicle maintenance reports, requisition forms, and other documents.
  • Receive various forms, reports, manuals, or other documentation; review, process, forward or retain as appropriate.
  • Communicate via telephone and/or two‑way radio; provide information and assistance; take and relay messages and/or direct calls to appropriate personnel; return calls as necessary.
  • Respond to routine requests for information or assistance from employees, the public, or other individuals.
  • Provide accurate, courteous information to public users; assist the elderly and citizens with special needs.
  • Pick up materials and supplies as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and or

Experience:

High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) or two to four months related prior experience and/or training or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Valid Georgia driver’s license.
