Duties Description Under the direction of a Senior Boiler Inspector, the incumbent will:
* Make scheduled regulatory safety inspections of high/low pressure boilers and boiler installations to ensure their safe operating condition.
* Enforce compliance with statutory provisions of the Labor Law and industrial rules relating to boiler operations.
* Conduct inspections as the result of complaints or accidents.
* Inspections may require climbing through small openings and climbing on top of boilers.
* Employees will be required to travel, multiple days/nights, for training purposes, not to exceed one week at a time.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, if they meet the below NY HELPS minimum qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications:
Four years of commercial, residential, or military experience in boiler making, boiler installation or inspection or in the operation and maintenance of high and/or low pressure boilers including all firing apparatus and control devices.
Substitution:
An associate degree in engineering technology, marine engineering, mechanical engineering, or mechanical technology and either two years of commercial, residential, or military experience in boiler making, boiler installation or inspection or in the operation and maintenance of high and/or low pressure boilers including all firing apparatus and control devices.
* Your degree must have been awarded by an educational institution accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States (U.S.) Department of Education/Secretary of Education. If awarded by an institution outside of the U.S. and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.
