City of Albany's Public Works Department is currently seeking candidates to join our Water Distribution Team! In this role, you'll tackle a variety of maintenance and construction tasks. You will operate various types of equipment to support the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of the City's water distribution and canal systems. Join us and play a crucial part in keeping our City's water systems running smoothly!

The general working hours are 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday - Friday.

Hourly Rate Ranges
  • Water Maintenance I: $26.15 - $33.29
  • Water Maintenance II: $28.08 - $35.67
  • Water Maintenance III: $30.56 - $38.94
Benefits

Responsibilities:

  • Performs basic and semi-skilled labor and services hydrants, valves, meters, pumps, air release valves, screen trollies, canal valves and gates, and other water system and canal appurtenances within the water distribution and canal systems with higher-level maintenance personnel to ensure that all components of the system function properly as work is performed.
  • Performs semi-skilled labor required for construction and maintenance projects, alone or as part of a crew. Work may include hand excavation, cutting brush, mowing, brush clearing, tree removal, tool cleaning, painting, and back filling.
  • Assists in planning, scheduling, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing the water distribution system.
  • Assists water quality flushing, testing, and sampling.
  • Assists in the completion and maintenance of a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity of the water distribution system and canal.
  • Assists with customer concerns; evaluating the situation; correcting the problem or seeking assistance.
  • Surveys the water distribution system to identify both unprotected cross-connections, potential cross-connections, and unaccounted for devices.
  • Maintains regular job attendance and adherence to working hours; may be required to work after hours or weekends and holidays responding to emergencies.
  • Contacts residents and business owners in areas where services will be interrupted and explains why and when service will be interrupted and when service will be restored.
  • Operates large service vehicles safely and legally.
  • Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and tools and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Maintains parts inventory and purchases materials within established guidelines.
  • Determines the locations of other utilities prior to excavation.
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards and best practices.
  • Represents the City of Albany by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.
