Job Summary Supports the Facilities and Custodial team by performing a wide range of custodial duties to ensure a clean, safe, inviting environment where students, staff and the public can learn, gather and work.
Essential Duties
Provide custodial services after events and meetings on weekends and Fridays during college closures. Drive college‑owned vehicles to satellite campuses to provide custodial services following events and meetings held at other campuses.Sweep, scrub, dust mop, wet mop, wet vacuum, auto scrub, burnish, strip, refinish, and buff floors; clean windows, entry glass, tabletops, counters, walls, sinks, eyewash stations, chalk/white boards, and trays; vacuum, extract, shampoo, and spot‑clean carpets; dust table tops, desktops, chairs, and polish furniture and woodwork; vacuum upholstered furniture.Clean, scrub, and disinfect restrooms; clean and polish metalwork, mirrors, and other restroom fixtures; clean and disinfect inside and outside of sinks, toilets, seat covers, urinals, including hardware; plunge clogged toilets; clean walls, ceilings, partitions, doors and air vents; descale toilets, sinks, and urinals as needed; clean mirrors and remove graffiti; maintain floor drains; restock and keep inventory of various classroom, office and restroom supplies such as paper towels, soap, toilet paper, and related items.Empty and clean waste receptacles; replace trash liners when torn or soiled; collect trash and recyclables; remove paper or trash debris on the ground around receptacles, in classrooms and hallways.Clean exterior core areas, covered walkways, stairs, entrances and windows; pressure wash concrete and brick; sweep, mop, and vacuum concrete; empty ashtrays and trash containers; remove graffiti and perform other duties as needed.Move furniture and equipment for department moves, carpet replacement, new purchase installation, excess removal, etc.; set up and take down furniture, standard equipment, and specialized equipment in meeting rooms, classrooms, and other school facilities for special meetings and events such as banquets, athletic events, theater performances, graduation, etc.; forklift may be required to move items between buildings.Clean and maintain custodial equipment, including performing minor repairs or preventative maintenance.Check doors, windows, and assigned areas for maintenance needs and possible vandalism; report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards; keep building areas secure during cleaning.Maintain custodial closet supply inventory; obtain supplies from the main campus‑supply storage room as needed.Sanitize touch points such as door handles, push bars, tables, chairs, drinking fountains, etc.Work with grounds and maintenance crews as needed and/or be assigned with snow removal and de‑icing sidewalks and stairs when necessary.Assist visitors and students by providing information and services; respond to questions such as location of restrooms, classes, events, etc.Communicate and coordinate with staff and faculty concerning building activities, special requests, set‑ups and custodial projects.Assist with emergency evacuations and closures.Perform other related duties as assigned.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Position involves sustained walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting various weights up to 60 pounds. Requires the ability to bend, twist, and stoop repeatedly during an eight‑hour work shift. Eighty percent of job duties require repetitive arm and shoulder motions with 10 to 60 pounds of exertion. Requires ability to climb (e.g., ladders), kneel, and crouch.
Work is predominantly indoors, with some exposure to inclement weather when cleaning core areas or assisting ground crews. May be exposed to hazardous fumes, chemicals, and sprays associated with cleaning materials. May have some exposure to blood‑borne pathogens, body fluids, etc. Noise extremes may occur when operating equipment such as buffers, extractors, and vacuums. Shift will primarily be on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday during school terms, typically from 2:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
