Position Summary:
The Student Custodian assists in creating a clean and welcoming environment within the Student Union Building. As a part of the fast-paced and student-centered team, this position helps ensure that all event spaces, common spaces, meeting rooms, and dining areas are safe, organized, and ready for the daily activity and events that take place in the building. Student Custodians have a positive impact on the student experience by maintaining the high standards of cleanliness, responding to needs promptly, and supporting the operations of the facility.
This position also assists with setup/tear-down of large events as needed to assist Operations staff.
Ideal candidates are dependable, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. The Student Union is fun and at the heart of campus life, making this position a great opportunity for students who take pride in their work and want to make a positive impact on their campus community. It provides hands-on experience in teamwork, time management, and responsibility while working in an environment on campus that is one of the most dynamic and engaging.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sweep and mop floors
- Vacuum carpets
- Empty trash receptacles and trash bags for proper disposal
- Clean windows
- Dust as needed
- Assist Operations team as needed
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Adherence to Student Union Employee Handbook guidelines
- Ability to carry out detailed tasks
- Understand and follow safety procedures and facility policies
- Ability to understand verbal instructions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must have the ability to lift, push, pull, and manipulate at least 30lbs.
