Position OverviewThe Custodian Lead is responsible for overseeing daily custodial and sanitation operations in a federally contracted ICE residential facility, while performing routine cleaning and housekeeping duties. This position provides direction and support to custodial staff, monitors quality standards, maintains supply inventories, and helps ensure facilities remain clean, safe, and compliant with applicable health, safety, and sanitation requirements. The Custodian Lead serves as a working lead and is expected to perform hands‑on custodial duties while supporting team performance and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions Leadership & Oversight- Lead and support daily custodial operations across assigned facilities and work areas.
- Assign, prioritize, and monitor work activities for custodial staff.
- Inspect completed work to ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and housekeeping standards are met.
- Train and coach staff on cleaning procedures, equipment operation, workplace safety, and infection control practices.
- Assist with onboarding and ongoing development of custodial personnel.
- Promote a safe, professional, and respectful work environment.
- Perform cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing of assigned areas, including offices, restrooms, common areas, work spaces, and other facility locations.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors; perform floor care activities as required.
- Empty trash and waste receptacles and ensure proper disposal of waste materials.
- Restock consumable supplies including soap, paper products, and cleaning materials.
- Follow infection control procedures and ensure proper use of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Support routine and deep‑cleaning activities to maintain sanitary conditions.
- Conduct routine inspections and identify maintenance concerns, safety hazards, equipment issues, or unsanitary conditions.
- Maintain inventories of cleaning supplies, equipment, and custodial materials; report shortages and coordinate replenishment.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
- Coordinate with facility staff to support safe and efficient operations.
- Respond to spills, sanitation concerns, and other facility support needs as required.
- Complete and review cleaning logs, inspection reports, inventory records, and maintenance requests.
- Ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, sanitation, and organizational standards.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate operational needs, concerns, and status updates to management.
- Adhere to established policies regarding confidentiality, security, and employee conduct.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum two (2) years of custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or related experience.
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, sanitation practices, and safe chemical handling procedures.
- Ability to lead and motivate staff while maintaining accountability and quality standards.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to complete required documentation and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all required background checks, clearances, and credentials.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, is required.
- Bilingual.
- Experience in healthcare, residential, institutional, government, hospitality, or other regulated environments.
