Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform duties associated with and including meter reading. These job duties include, but are not limited to; readings, service orders, and replacing and installing water meters for billing purposes. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:- Reads water meters on assigned routes for billing of water usage and enters updates on hand-held meter reading devices.
- Attaches electronic pads to meter reading devices for increased accuracy of the reading.
Rereads and rechecks any inaccurate readings. - Delivers late notices to residential customers.
- Reconnect new or stopped meters into the water line system.
- Changes and replaces broken or scratched lenses on water meters.
- Tests meters for accuracy and registration.
- Determines the location of water leaks.
- Replaces meter boxes, schedules meter repairs, and cleans work sites.
- Utilizes, maintains and repairs handheld and visual meter readers.
- Respond to inquiries and complaints from customers about water leaks and inaccurate billings.
- Consistently perform all job duties at an acceptable level.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Attendance; regular and timely attendance during assigned work hours. After-hours and weekend work are required as necessary.
- Deadlines: ability to set and meet appropriate deadlines. Timely follow-up and follow-through with staff and others. Effectively multi-task and work under time pressure and deadlines.
- Communications & Record Keeping; ability to read, comprehend and effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, in English. Communicate effectively and professionally with staff, volunteers, council, and others. Ability to maintain and retain all records and follow the City’s record retention policy.
- Customer Service; must be professional, respectful, helpful, and polite to staff, volunteers, council members, and others at all times. All work must be performed in a timely and satisfactory manner.
- Financial; ensure all expenditures are within budget. Utilize the City’s Procurement Card (P-Card) in an ethical and responsible manner. Submit receipts monthly. Ensure all financial functions, recordkeeping, and reporting are performed timely and accurately and that records are properly created and maintained.
- Policies & Procedures; perform duties in accordance with City policies, procedures, standards, and comply with local, state, and federal law.
- Safety; follow safety policies and rules.
- Stay Current; keep up with trends and changes.
- Confidential Information: safeguard confidential information and disclose it only to those in “need to know”.
- Ability to calculate, compute, summate, and/or tabulate data and/or information. Includes the ability to perform subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations.
- Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others on how to apply procedures and standards to specific situations. Ability to use good decision-making skills.
- Ability to operate, maneuver, and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
- Ability to utilize a wide variety of descriptive data and information, such as TMCCA Policy Manuals, street maps, Department of Public Safety regulations, Traffic/Criminal Code Handbook, Offense Code List, City Code of Ordinances, and computer program documentation.
- Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; ability to utilize principles of fractions; ability to interpret graphs.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

High School diploma or GED equivalent. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, and physical and criminal background check. Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and ability to drive; maintain and provide proof of liability insurance. Have and maintain a professional, inviting, and friendly demeanor. Must have a working cell phone and the ability to respond to after-hours calls.
